As a source of joy and companionship as well as a much-loved member of the family, most pet owners would not contemplate a move to a retirement village or over 55s community if it would mean leaving their furry friend behind.
The benefits of pet ownership are well recognised at Blueheath at The Bower, the pet-friendly retirement village leading the pack in
Medowie, Port Stephens. Blueheath resident Garry McKittrick has enjoyed getting to know fellow residents’ pets and loves seeing the sense of
community they inspire as residents stop and chat while walking their dogs, “Moving to Blueheath has been a great move for us. We
wouldn’t have even considered it if the village wasn’t pet-friendly. My walks with Jayco helped me settle in very quickly - I’d met most
of my neighbours within a few days. Blueheath and the surrounding area is a lovely, safe place to walk, I really look forward to my daily
walk and talking to my neighbours as I pass.”
Blueheath’s first dog friendly event was a great success in December. Residents were invited to book their furry friend in for a free dog
spa treatment followed by a BBQ lunch and a doggie Christmas party with the highlight of the day being a best in show parade featuring the
pampered pooches. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed dogs as well as the best dressed dog and owner combo! Nev Rees, of the winning
pair said “My dog Bandit enjoyed it as much as I did! I love the sense of community at Blueheath and look forward to lots of other fun
occasions with my neighbours.”
